United States – India Educational Foundation (USIEF) has announced its annual competition for Fulbright-Nehru, Fulbright-Kalam and other Fulbright fellowships for Indian citizens for the academic year 2020-21.

 

The different categories of fellowships and eligible disciplines are given below. Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowships – Application due date: May 15, 2019

 

These fellowships are for outstanding students with a four-year undergraduate degree and three years of professional work experience, to pursue a Master’s degree in the U.S. in the following areas of study:

–       Arts and Culture Management including Heritage Conservation and Museum Studies

–       Economics

–       Environmental Science / Studies

–       Higher Education Administration

–       International Affairs

–       International Legal Studies

–       Public Administration

–       Public Health

–       Urban and Regional Planning; and

Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships – Application due date: May 15, 2019

 

These are pre-doctoral level research fellowships for six to nine months for students who have registered for a Ph.D. at an Indian institution by September 1, 2018.

The eligible fields of study for the Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral fellowships are:

Agricultural Sciences; Anthropology; Bioengineering; Computer Science (including, but not limited to, cyber security, digital economy, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data analytics); Economics; Education Policy and Planning; Energy Studies; History; International Law; International Security and Strategic Studies; Materials Science (with emphasis on environmental applications); Mathematical Sciences; Neurosciences; Performing Arts; Physical Sciences; Public Health; Public Policy; Sociology; Urban and Regional Planning (with emphasis on smart cities and waste management); Visual Arts; and Women’s and Gender Studies.

These fellowships are for faculty and research scholars, who have obtained their doctoral degree between July 16, 2015 and July 15, 2019, to pursue a postdoctoral research fellowship in the U.S. for 8 to 24 months.

******************************************************************************************************Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships – Application due date: July 15, 2019 

This fellowship is meant for faculty, professionals and senior researchers, and provides an opportunity to teach and/or research at a U.S university for 4 to 9 months. The minimum length of the grant is four months and the maximum is six months. One can opt for the Flex award if they want to split the grant time into 2 parts – each part no less than 1 month and no more than 3 months.

Aimed at building long-term capacity in climate research, the Fulbright-Kalam Climate Fellowships provides opportunities to talented faculty and researchers to strengthen their research capabilities. Under this category, students registered for a Ph.D. at an Indian institution by September 1, 2018, can apply for a six to nine-month fellowship. In addition, Indian faculty and researchers who have obtained their doctoral degree between July 16, 2015 and July 15, 2019, can apply for a Postdoctoral research for eight to twelve months.

This is a prestigious 10-month fellowship for young and mid-career professionals, policy makers, planners, administrators, and managers in the government, public and private sectors, and NGOs for professional development in the fields of Agricultural and Rural Development; Communications/Journalism; Economic Development; Educational Administration, Planning and Policy; Finance and Banking; Higher Education Administration; HIV/AIDS Policy and Prevention; Human Resource Management; Law and Human Rights; Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, and Climate Change; Public Health Policy and Management; Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration; Substance Abuse Education, Treatment and Prevention; Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (Teacher Training or Curriculum Development); Technology Policy and Management; Trafficking in Persons, Policy and Prevention; Urban and Regional Planning.

******************************************************************************************************Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Seminar – Application due date: September 2, 2019


This is a two-week program in the U.S. in October 2020 for mid- to senior-level Indian college and university administrators who have at least two years of experience in international program development and management at their institutions. The applicant should have substantial responsibility for enhancing the international dimension of their institutions, and must aim to build capacity of their faculty and students through international collaborations and exchange and innovative curricular design. A total of 12 Indian higher education administrators will be selected for this program which will include visits to U.S. universities/colleges, panel discussions and networking events, giving them an opportunity to learn about curriculum development, globalization of education, teaching methodologies and faculty/student exchanges.

Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for international teachers (Fulbright DAI) Program – Due date: March 1, 2019

 

Fulbright DAI is a semester-long non-degree, non-credit, professional development program at a U.S. university. Selected international participants will be placed at a U.S. host university School of Education from January 2020 to May 2020. The program will provide with a unique opportunity to pursue individual or group projects, take courses for professional development at a host university, and observe and share their expertise with teachers and students at the host university or local primary and secondary schools. Cultural enrichment, mentoring, and support will be provided throughout the program. Full time school teachers with five years of teaching experience of any subject at any level (primary, middle, secondary or senior secondary), in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, can apply to the program.

The Fulbright Specialist program provides an opportunity to Indian universities and institutions of higher learning, to invite U.S. scholars and professionals to their campus for a period of 2 weeks to 6 weeks, to draw on the expertise of U.S. scholars and professionals and develop linkages with American institutions.
